For the Love of......

...coffee!

Here are a few pictures of or about my favorite beverage!

Aren't those sign type pictures just the best?

One day I want a little breakfast nook so I can make it into a coffee shop type area. I would decorate it with all those signs and I even found curtains that have a coffee theme!

I would just love that! My house is always open to guests who want to come by for coffee, but to have a special spot to sip & chat would be heavenly!

ahhh...I just love the daydream!

Saving with my Keurig

Those of you who read my Christmas post saw that my hubby bought me this beautiful, shiny Keurig for Christmas.

I've been using it and loving every minute of it. One really cool feature is that you can use a K-cup or your own ground coffee. It has a K-cup sized coffee filter to put your grounds in if you choose to do it with your coffee.

I was wicked happy about that because I had several bags of coffee in my cupboard. The only thing I was not looking forward to was purchasing the actual K-cups. It just seemed to be more expensive.

My mom did the math and she said it came out to about $0.50 per cup, but I figured my ground coffee would come out to be less. More work, less money...I'm cool with that.

So, I just did the math on the ground coffee.

If I have a 12 oz bag of coffee I get approximately 27 scoops of coffee out of it. With the Keurig 1 scoop = 1 cup of coffee.

I spent $5.99 on a bag of DD ground coffee (thanks to CVS and a $1 off coupon)

That would mean I am "paying" $0.21 for a cup of coffee. I'm saving $0.29 NOT buying the K-cups. I like that!

I took it even further and figured this out:

A 12 oz bag of coffee @ $6.99 per bag = $0.26 per cup
A 12 oz bag of coffee @ $7.50 per bag = $0.28 per cup

I did those figures just in case I didn't have a coupon and had to buy at full price. Either way I still save over the K-cups.

Now, this doesn't mean I won't ever buy the K-cups. They're totally fun! How could I not buy them?!

Thanks, honey, for my really cool gift! I love it and I love that you know me and what I like!

I'll be back to blogging soon...

...but first, I had to share this.

I wrote this down on December 19th because I didn't want to forget what Caleb said.

Here is the note I jotted down:

Friday, December 19, 2008

Caleb's first words this morning were, "Hot coffee." A boy after my own heart!

I'm not really sure if he smelled it brewing or just smelled my coffee breath! Either way it made me laugh.

P.S.

Vote and get a free coffee from Starbucks.

Not that coffee should be the reason you vote. However, if you're standing out in the cold this evening because the line to the voting booth is long you'll be very happy to march into Starbucks with your "I voted" sticker. You vote = free coffee.

Desperate times.....

What do you do when you realize you used the last of the cream for your husbands coffee?

Use the heavy whipping cream, of course!

A girl can NOT go without her coffee especially when the full pot of coffee is staring at her from the counter, taunting her with it's aroma "you can't drink me, you can't drink me" That's what you think, missy!!

A few days later my hips tell me I shouldn't have used the heavy whipping cream...and I agree with them!

(I did mix it -half and half- with soy milk, so that's not as bad, right?)
